Hard Drives Galore
This might get confusing/boring if you’re computer illiterate, but here it goes. My current hard drive inventory is such:
- 200GB hard drive (HD) which is currently my primary HD and has my operating system on it.
- 160GB HD which is my secondary internal hard drive and stores my documents, music, and other media files.
- 120GB HD which is contained in an external enclosure (connected via USB) and has some TV episodes stored on it, as well as pictures from Hickory Cove.
The last few days I’ve been noticing that one of my hard drives (I believe it’s my 200GB) occasionally (like, multiple times during the day) will occasionally make the sound as though it’s shutting down (it’s kind of a click). It’s a perfectly normal sound if I’m turning off my computer–but I’m not. This worries me. I don’t have a very good backup system, so if one of my hard drives go, it wouldn’t be a good thing. For this reason, I just purchased another hard drive as well as another external enclosure. The new hard drive is 250GB. They should be here hopefully by Friday. I’m going to do a little rearranging with my hard drives:
- Make the 250GB my primary hard drive (since it will the be the newest and most dependable) and to do this, I will mirror the 200GB (Which I believe is the problematic one) onto the 250GB.
- Put the 200GB into the external enclosure and make it strictly a backup drive. I will mirror all of my documents, graphics, and other personal work, as well as probably some TV episodes, all my music, and probably an exact mirror image of my operating system.
Although I didn’t want to purchase these items at this time, I felt it necessary for the security of my files. Plus, it will enable me to have an excellent and very thorough backup system in case anything would happen.
So now I will have a total of 730GB of hard drive space + my little 20GB portable hard drive, which brings the total amount of space to 750GB. Yea, it’s a lot. And right now, I can’t use it all, but I will eventually.
