Fire Alarm!

“So…remember that one time I off the fire alarm on Smith Hall at three o’clock in the morning?”

“Yea man. Those were good times.”

“They were. They most certainly were.”

So by now you’re wondering what in the world I’m talking about. Well, let me start from the beginning.

It all started around 3:00am on the morning of Monday, December 11, 2006. I was hungry—and not sleepy. So I threw a bag of popcorn into the microwave, set the time, and walked into my bedroom. A few minutes later I hear the microwave beep. I walk out into our main room only to be met by a strange burning smell. I look over at the microwave and it does not look good. The bag is somewhat blackened. I ran over and pulled out the bag. It was burning hot (no pun intended). I rushed into the bathroom with the smoking bag of popcorn. I ripped it open and threw the popcorn into the toilet, then ran over to the sink and threw the bag in and turned on the water. I walked out of the bathroom and a fellow Smith Hall-er who was farther down the hallway asks me, “Did you burn a bag of popcorn?” I somewhat explained what had happened. I went back to the bathroom to throw away the bag of popcorn when suddenly the freakin fire alarm started going off! Thankfully I knew the cause of it and went down to my RA’s room to tell him. People started emerging from their rooms. The funny thing was, only three people (out of the ten on our floor) were sleeping. My roommate either never woke up, or decided not to get out of bed.

As we were standing out in the hallway and I was explaining what had happened, the security guard came running onto our floor from the main building. YAY FOR MIKE! He pretty much rocks. So he turned off the fire alarm, and then we all went into the lounge and hung out and talked for awhile and ate left over food from our previous evening’s floor party. We actually had more people from our floor sitting around hanging out after the false fire alarm then we had at our floor party.

It’s now 4:22am as I write this (I’m writing this in Microsoft Word and then I’ll post it later when the internet is back on). Two buddies are sitting in here playing Playstation 2 and I’m sitting here on my laptop. I don’t know if I’ll go to bed or not. I might. I have class at 8:25, and then after that I could sleep for about two and half hours, but we’ll see how the cookie crumbles.
