Here’s what has been going on.
We got 4 inches Sunday. A couple of the brethren churches cancelled
services because the roads were pretty bad, so we quick threw together
a service here at school–all completely student led, and had a normal
“brethren” service–including communion. It was actually amazing how
well it came together considering it all got planned within an
hour…and I counted about 100 students there. We even had a full
sermon given by one of the students (he had a few already prepared
ahead of time).
I had gone to bed by 3am Saturday night (err, Sunday morning) planning
on getting up at 10am for church (7hrs of sleep is enough). I had
talked to one of the guys on snowcrew, and he said that we wouldn’t be
going out before church (we knew snow was coming that night). At 7:00am
I got awakened by my SC (Snow Crew) supervisor. So 7hrs got reduced to
4hrs. We worked for about an hour and a half Sunday morning–then I did
A/V for the service. Then the service went about two hours, we had
lunch, and then headed back out for SC. Worked until 6pm and then we
were having a computer major’s party over at Mr. Woodhouse’s. Mr.
Manning made pizza (which was delicious), and we played some board
games, etc. We got back to school about 11pm. I got to bed by midnight.
Then got up again at 6:00am for SC, working until 7:18pm. Monday
afternoon I took about a 4hr nap.
I haven’t been sledding, but yes, I have been “playing” in the snow
I’ve spent a lot of time on the Gator–and I’ve loved every minute of
it. I even got to drive one of the plow trucks a little bit–they are
easier to operate then the Gator because the only bumps in the road you
have to worry about are the speed bumps–besides those two, you just
drop the blade and go.
There was a bunch of girls that were sledding on the hill next to Smith
Hall (north side, on the football field) when we were clearing the
Smith Hall parking lot (the lower parking lot–not the main one in
front of the gym). We pushed some of the snow into a nice jump right at
the bottom of the hill–which is actually part of the parking lot, but
it’s unused during the winter, so it doesn’t matter if it’s piled
there. It’s a pretty sweet jump.
I had my first “full” afternoon at Hope Church this afternoon. I spent
the first hour and a half on the phone with Dell tech support because
of the continued problems with their computer that they have setup for
their PowerPoint system that has been giving them nothing but problems.
I’m pretty sure the technician loved me because I was able to give him
a lot of information about the problem we were having and I had tested
different stuff before calling so we were able to cross-off possible
options right away. He finally got to the point where he’s like “well,
since we’ve already replaced almost every piece of hardware in that
computer (at least once), I’m just going to ship you a new system.”
This is kinda what Hope Church has been wanting for quite some time. So
I earned some bonus points with Shane (my “supervisor”)–plus it saved
him from wasting another 1.5 hrs of his workday…they have already
spent a large number of hours in the past few months on the phone with
tech support because of all the problems.
Here’s a story that will make you say “I’m so proud of you”: Last night
I finished doing my Hermeneutics homework (for the most part) at about
8:30pm. I was sitting there in my computer chair and started to fall
asleep. Rather than going for the caffiene option, I’m just like “you
know what Caleb, why not just go to bed.” So I did–at 8:45pm. I woke up a few times during the night but would fall right back asleep. I didn’t get out of bed 8:45am. That’s right. Twelve hours of sleep.
I’ve been bouncing all day. It’s great. And all my friends are jealous
I might try going to bed early tonight as well, but we’ll see. I
wish I could get that much sleep every night, but unfortunately I don’t
get enough exercise for my body to actually be able to sleep 12hrs a
night.
Oh, that reminds me, we had our semi-final floor hockey game on Monday
night. It was a tough game. We had the lead for the first half, but
then in the second half, they went on a 4-0 run, and we fell behind by
two (6-8). Then, with 2:30 left in the game, we tied it up. With :50
left, we took the lead, and then we scored another goal with :13 left,
winning the game 10-8. It was the most physically demanding game we’ve
played all season–but it was awesome. The championship game is this
upcoming Monday. With the way we’ve been playing, plus the team that we
will be playing in the championship, I think we have a really good
chance of winning.
