Amidst all the chaos and strife going on in the world outside Emmaus, let’s all take a pause and zoom in on the simple and boring existence of this human who, on his birth certificate, is legally named Caleb Michael Unseth.
Last Tuesday (01/30/07) was Emmaus’s intramural floor hockey championship game. My team, “Brace Yourself”, vs “We’re Not Good”. The opposing team was tough. They were very fast and fairly physical. Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t get any shots past our goalie. Final score: 9-0 in favor of us. I was able to score the 2nd goal of the game, which was pretty sweet. There is a team picture on the Emmaus website. At game time, I was runn ing on only 2.5 hrs of sleep since 8:20am of the previous day–but I still had enough energy to play hard. I went to bed soon after the game ![]()
Thursday morning I went to bed about 3:00am expecting to sleep till 8:20. Unfortunately, I was awakened at 7:00am by my snow crew chief. We had gotten a thick dusting of light puffy snow. It wasn’t thick enough to need a shovel to clear off, but it was enough to be needed to cleared off the sidewalks. So I got to take a leaf-blower around all the sidewalks blowing off all the snow. Let me tell, it was a LOT of fun (seriously). I found it especially gratifying to through the inner courtyards where I was surrounded by dorm rooms. Hey, if I have to be up that early, so should everyone else.
Friday night was an especially fun/eventful evening. Our school offered a discounted rate for skiing/snowboarding at the local ski resort, Sundown Mtn. My next door neighbor, Joe Dunn, and I went out to the hill at about 4:30pm. We both went snowboarding. Joe’s snowboarded before, but it was awhile ago, and he was having a rough time with it all. My roommate, Brad, showed up after work about 7:00pm. He also went snowboarding. After a couple of trips down the bunny hill, we hit the one of the “real” trails. Brad and I did well, but unfortunately Joe did not. He finally gave up about eight-ish. Brad and I continued snowboarding. About a quarter after ten, our bodies had finally had enough and we, along with our sore and bruised bodies, headed back to school. Today, all three of us are pretty sore. I had taken a nasty tumbling spill and wrenched my shoulder. Overall, that’s the sorest part, but most of my back, chest, wrists, legs, and left buttock, are all tender.
This afternoon Brad, Joe, and I cleaned our bathroom. For those of you who don’t know, we have two bathrooms on our floor, but since we only have eight people, our school doesn’t want to pay to clean both, so we agreed to clean one if they would keep it open. So anyways, it had been awhile since it had gotten cleaned (about a monthish–but remember, it’s only three people using it, so it wasn’t as bad as you may think…but still definitely dirty). The three of us spent about 45 minutes scrubbing, washing, laughing, and other fun manly things that you do when you’re cleaning a bathroom. After it was all said and done, we were quite impressed. We now have full paper towel dispensers, full toilet paper dispensers, clean toilets/urinals, spot-free (for the most part) sinks/counter-top, and shiny shower stalls. Oh, and it all smells even lovely than ever since I fixed the automatic air freshner dispenser (a.k.a. flipping the switch to “on”).
I’m currently sitting at front desk dutifully performing my receptionist duties. I’ve been here since 6:30pm and won’t get outta here until 1:00am.
