UpLife
Haven’t blogged in awhile, so I thought I better try and give a quick summary on what’s been happening lately in Dubuque, Apt 5, and my life.
Weather records are proving what most Iowans already know. This was one hard winter in Iowa this year. Weather officials say last Thursday’s 4.4 inches of snowfall in Dubuque topped the old season record. Dubuque recorded 76.2 inches of snow since it began falling in November. Including Thursday, measurable snow fell in Dubuque on 40 days since Nov. 21, including 14 days in February. Dubuque’s previous record was set in the winter of 1961-62, when 75.7 inches fell.
We got another 1.9″ on Thursday which pushes the record up to 78.1 inches. I think it’s all pretty cool.
In the last two days, old guys have fallen from structures here in Dubuque and died:
- Man dies after falling from Dubuque parking ramp
- Police search river – Officials fear Wisconsin man jumped from bridge
My roommates and I have raised our building alert level to “Code Orange” and are closely monitoring our roof for elderly males who may have grave intentions (pun intended). But seriously, it’s pretty sad that anyone gets to a point where they take their own life and leave so many behind to grieve.
Staples continues to be cool. I played a great April Fools joke on some of my co-workers, getting them to believe that this was my last week there. The reaction was great.
Dexter (my ‘91 Honda Civic) continues to roll along happily. We go everywhere together–some might say we’re inseperable. I think we’re most definitely bff’s (best friends for life).
Tomorrow (Saturday) is supposed to be a high of 63 degrees with no precip in the forecast. I believe a bike ride would make great use of the beautiful weather.
My roomie, Rob, is gone to Chi-town for the weekend, so it’s just me and Andy chillin’ in the apartment on a Friday night. I love my social life (or incredible lack thereof).
I have a lot of reading/web design/excercise to complete this weekend. It’s 12:30am, but I don’t foresee myself going to bed anytime in the near future.
