Automatic Flushing Toilets Rock! (And other misc stuff)

I apologize for it being so long since my last update, but since I only have dial-up at home, it’s a pain to blog on that slow of a connection. So, here I am finally blogging now that I’m at school and on a high-speed connection.

I returned from camp August 13. It was cool because on the way home I got to Uncle Reuben and the fam, Grandpa and Grandma Unseth, Aaron and Gretchen (w00t!), and Uncle Andy. The next day after getting home I took Isaac back up to Oak Hills Christian College. My cousin Rachel tagged along–which was cool since we haven’t spent much time together in our lifetime. We had some good conversation’s on the return trip home.

During the next couple weeks I was at home I spent a lot of time hanging out with friends and catching up on what happened over the summer (which was quite a bit). My last night home (Thursday, August 24, 2006) before heading for Emmaus, I had a sweet bonfire at my house. It was really cool to see all my friends before I headed off. Especially since I’m not sure when the next time will be that I’ll be seeing them since some of them are going off to college this fall as well so our breaks may not coincide. But yea, the bonfire was definitely fun. Dusty is e-mailing me some pictures soon, so I’ll probably put at least some of those on my Flickr account–and probably post some in here as well. There were definitely some memories made at that bonfire :)
So anyways, Friday, August 25, I packed up the van and my parents and I headed for Dubuque, Iowa. We stopped at my grandparents for the night. Then we headed out once again early Saturday morning arriving at Emmaus about 11:30. Got through registration and moved in all my stuff into my room (same room as last semester as well as the same roommate…w00t!). One thing I didn’t realized I missed so much until I got back to EBC was the auto-flushing toilets in the bathrooms. They are so awesome! It’s a lazy man’s dream come true. But it does develop some bad habits for when you’re at locations that don’t have such luxuries.
This last weekend I was actually kinda bored because I was kind of anxious to get a start on the school year. I was actually looking forward to classes starting–which they did today. The three classes I’ve had so far aren’t bad, and my classes tomorrow should be fun as well–so it’s looking like it will be a pretty sweet semester.

I’ve decided to head down the MCSE Track for my B.A. Computer Information Systems degree. MCSE stands for Microsoft Certified Software Engineer which basically means you know how to operate all of Microsoft’s software and can do a lot of stuff. I can pretty much get a pretty good job out of college with that kind of certification.

Tonight for supper, me and three friends went to a chinese restaurant for supper. I had a huge plate of sweet and sour pork. It was good–but the after effects were not. For the three hours after eating, I had severe stomach/chest pain. It was really weird–and painful. Not to be to graphic in description, but I did go sit on the toilet for a while–which kind of helped, but not really. Then I drank some green tea, which did help some more. Then I went and layed in my bed in the fetal position (which reduced the pain a lot) and laid there for awhile. I think I may have dozed off for a little bit, but not long. After that I felt pretty much back to normal.

It is now a little after 11:00pm, and I’m pretty tired. I went to bed last night at midnight but couldn’t fall asleep until after 2:00am. Tonight, it should be much easier to fall asleep since I’m already tired enough.

Well, I’m gonna eat some Fruity Pebbles and then get to bed hopefully by midnight–but not before watching at least one more episode of 24 (the bestest TV show of all-amazing-time).

Rain!

It’s finally actually raining! We’ve got a nice little T-Storm rolling through right now. Should get at least 1/2-1 inch out of it. It  hasn’t rained here for awhile so we need it.

Today is the first full day of Young Adult camp. It’s pretty sweet. I went waterskiing this afternoon. It was only me and another person who actually went skiing (two people came along on the boat just to watch), so we got to ski as much as we wanted. It was sweet. I busted out some sweet moves. I jumped the wake some, and I also pulled a sweet move where I put my hands around through my legs and held onto the rope for a little bit. I also tried slaloming (skiing with one ski). The best way to learn to do it is to start out of the water with two skis, and then drop one as you’re going along. The first two times I tried I fell almost right away, but the third time, I was able to stay standing up on one ski longer. It was sweet. Once I get better at doing it on ski, then I’ll work on getting out of the water with one ski–which will probably be pretty hard.

Well, it’s 3:40pm, but I’m tired from skiing, so I’m gonna go take a nap I think.

Thanks

So today marks the end of my “working” at camp. I will still be here another week, but I’ll be here as a camper. As I look back (well, technically, think back) over the summer, I can’t help but be amazed. God has been doing incredible things in my life. My financial support this summer has been incredibly humbling. I’m still amazed at how much I’ve received, and I pray that God would bless those people who God has enabled to financially support me. I also appreciate all your prayers, more than you could know. I know that some people can’t financially support me, but they’ve still supported me in greater ways be simply praying for me.
I’m happy because I’m looking forward to coming back home and seeing my family and friends. But I’m also sad to be leaving Hickory Cove Bible Camp. I absolutely love it here. Not only do I love the nature beauty of the camp, but also the people. The full-time  staff here at camp is incredible. Whether they know it or not, Josh and Luke have made a huge impact in my life and have been amazing mentor’s. All the full-time staff here–Keith, Wolf, Sylvia, Cecile, John, etc are awesome as well–they’ve sacrificed their precious time and money to just to hang out with me. I’m pretty much forever grateful.

All the summer staff has been awesome. I’ve developed great friendships in a short amount of time. I’ve seen people’s good sides, and I’ve seen their bad. They’ve made me angry. They’ve made me laugh. They’ve made me depressed. They’ve made me happy. But in the end, I wouldn’t trade their friendships for anything in this world.

One thing I can assure of is this: With all my heart and soul, I want to come back to this camp next summer. And to be honest, I’ve already begun praying and thinking about maybe coming on full-time at this camp in a few years. That would be amazingly awesome!

To sum it all up, this summer has been the most amazing summer of my life. I’m definitely closer to God than I was at the beginning of summer, and everything is going great. God is awesome when you are doing His will. There’s not a better feeling in the world.

And to close this entry, once again, I say thanks. For everything.

Lazyday Saturday

Yup. Lazy. I was up till 4:30 am, then slept till 7:30am. Got up, went and took care of the animals, then came back and went to bed again. I slept until 1:30pm. Then in the afternoon I took the Workhorse and patched up one of the trails in the woods ‘cuz there was a washout area that was really annoying when you would drive over it because it was such a big bump. But that bump is no longer! w00t! Then later in the afternoon Keith took a bunch of us out skiing. It was pretty sweet. I busted out some sweet moves and got some air jumping off the wake. I haven’t been a very aggressive skies the previous 3 times I’ve been water skiing, so this was a lot of fun. It was also a little more painful because sometimes when I would try to jump off the wake, my landing wasn’t so smooth and I hit the water pretty hard a couple times. But it was still a lot of fun.

The rest of evening has been spent doing nothing. Some people went off on dates and such. The rest of us just chilled here–and will continue to do so for the rest of the evening. I’m too tired to do anything besides sit here, but I’m not tired enough to go to sleep. So I decided to write a blog instead :) It doesn’t take much concentration or effort so it’s the perfect thing for me to be doing right now. Oh yea, I added a new picture to my Flickr collection. It’s a picture of a canoe down at the lakefront that I took last week. So you can go check that out.

Well anyways. I don’t feel like writing anything else. So yea. Thanks for reading. Bye.

Hectic

Yea. Hectic. That pretty much wraps up the last week all in one word. But it’s still been mostly fun. There were certain people that made it more hectic and annoying (no, it’s not anybody who would even read this blog–so you’re safe). I stayed busy all week doing numerous things. Of course, many were computer related. I didn’t get a chance to take many pictures, which kinda sucked. But I tried to take more Thursday and then also Friday morning. Thursday night was crazy ‘cuz I hauled two girls cabins sleeping stuff out to the treehouse and then got a fire started for them. But it was fun because I got to drive around in the dark with the Workhorse (the nice offroad golf-cart). Then I got up at 7:30am Friday morning to go out there and pick up their stuff.

Luke (property manager) and his wife left this weekend so I’m taking care of their cats and horses. After cleaning the camp Friday evening, I took care of the cats which just involves putting the two cats in the garage. One cat is really friendly and I had no problem, but then the other other one was a scaredy cat (pun intended). I finally got it to come to me and gave it a treat and stuff. I think it will be friendly towards me now. Then I went to take care of their three horses and just had to make sure their water was full. They had drunk a lot since it was so hot outside so it was actually almost empty. After doing those chores, I came back to camp, took a shower and then most of us went over to one of the nearby staff’s home (Alyson’s) and watched the movie Sky High. It’s a pretty funny movie and pretty good family entertainment.

After the movie we came back to camp and now Josh, Lauren, Dave, Dave, and me are hanging out in the office. It’s 1:35am right now. We’ll probably be heading to bed soon. We’re all pretty tired–but yet, we’re not. But anyways. I’m sure I’ll blog more later. Have fun. Feel free to comment if you so desire.
